Prompt #62Postpartum 3–12 mo
Prompt 62: The Milestone "When to Worry" Guide
When to use it
You're tracking milestones and worried baby isn't hitting them. You want a real "when to wait, when to ask" framework.
The Prompt
My baby is [AGE] and I'm worried they're not hitting milestones. [WHAT — e.g., "not rolling over at 6 months" / "not babbling at 9 months" / "not crawling at 11 months" / "not pointing at 12 months" / "loses skills they had"].
I want a real guide, not 'every baby is different' platitudes.
My situation:
- Baby age: [E.G., "4 months" / "6 months" / "9 months" / "12 months" / "15 months"]
- What I'm worried about: [SPECIFIC MILESTONE]
- What they ARE doing: [LIST]
- What they were doing before: [E.G., "met milestones" / "was ahead" / "seems delayed" / "I have nothing to compare to"]
- Family history: [E.G., "we have autism in the family" / "speech delays" / "no known delays"]
- Pediatrician: [E.G., "they said wait" / "they referred to [specialist]" / "I haven't asked" / "I disagree"]
Please give me:
1. The actual milestone ranges (when 50% do it, 90% do it, vs. when 'concerning')
2. The difference between late bloomer and actual delay (and how to know)
3. The 'regression' red flag (losing skills = always worth investigating)
4. What to do at each age (4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 mo)
5. The questions to ask the pediatrician (and how to push if dismissed)
6. Early intervention: what it is, how to get it for free
7. The 'wait and see' vs. 'act now' decision
8. How to track milestones without spiraling (because parenting Instagram is not data)
Important: I want to know if I'm worrying about nothing or ignoring something.Example output
*"Milestone ranges (CDC, not Instagram): rolling 4-6 mo, sitting 6-9 mo, crawling 6-10 mo, first words 9-14 mo, walking 9-18 mo. Concerning: not rolling by 6 mo, not sitting by 9 mo, no babbling by 9 mo, no words by 15 mo, no pointing by 12 mo, regression (losing skills). Late bloomer vs. delay: ranges are wide because of normal variation, but TRUST YOUR GUT. Regression = always worth investigating (could indicate autism, neurological issue, Rett). Early intervention (US): free evaluation for any child 0-3, call your state's EI program directly, no doctor referral needed. 'I disagree with pediatrician' script: 'I'm not comfortable waiting. Can we do a referral, or should I get a second opinion?' If pediatrician dismisses, find a new one."*
